Update: Assault at Hope Middle School

On Monday, March 19, the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a sexual assault at Hope Middle School located at 2995 Mills Road, Greenville.

At 2:30, a teacher reported that a 12 year old female had been assaulted in the girls’ restroom around that same time.  A team of detectives with the PCSO were on the scene within minutes.  Evidence was collected, as well as surveillance video.

The victim was transported to the Tedi Bear Children’s Advocacy Center.

After a thorough investigation, and with the cooperation of school officials, it has been determined that the incident did not occur.

The juvenile is remorseful that her actions caused such panic with school officials and the community, and created questions about the safety of our schools.  However, she does understand the consequences of such allegations. 

Due to the extreme nature of the accusations, detectives are conferring with juvenile services to determine the appropriate actions that will be taken against the juvenile for filing this false report.
